2023 SOA BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION
Ballots for
the 2023 SOA Board of Directors election were dispatched on 1 August
2023. In order for your vote to count, the Tally Committee must receive
your ballot before the deadline:
30 SEPTEMBER 2023.

Early Bird Fun Shoot: The deadline to sign up for the early bird shooting event has been extended to October 1, 2023.
If hospitality workers in Las Vegas go on strike, the Orleans Hotel will not be affected.
There are many road closures on/near the strip as they
prepare for the upcoming Formula 1 race. Best to avoid driving there if
possible.
FOCUS ON SOAR XLVII - POW/MIA
The Joint SOA/SFA POW/MIA Symposium during
SOAR will feature a presentation by DPAA-HI (Defense POW/MIA Accounting
Agency) and DIA-Stony Beach (Defense Intelligence Agency) of a Linear
case study of a resolved MACV-SOG MIA soldier. Dr. Nicolette Parr,
Forensic Anthropologist, DPAA-HI Lab will also give a "Lab Tour" slide
presentation during the case study. The case is of Sergeant John Robert
Jones MIA on 4/5 June 1971 at the Hickory Radio Relay Site.
In addition to the Case Study presentation there will be guest speakers
from DPAA and other associated POW/MIA groups. Also attending will be
former POWs and family members of current MIAs. A question and answer
period will be a part of all presentations.
All SOA members and their guests are encouraged to attend the Symposium
at 10am on Wednesday, October 18th to learn about what is being done to
recover those soldiers that have not made it home.
SOA Riders BBQ
Fron Marcus: We are getting very close to
SOAR XLVII and the SOA Riders BBQ which will be held on Wednesday,
October 18, 2023 beginning at 1700 hrs. Charles Daily and his wife are
hosting the event at their home in Vegas. A bus will pickup the
attendees up at The Orleans and take them to Charles’s home and return
them to the hotel.

FOCUS ON SOAR XLVII - Speaker Robert T. Reynolds
On Wednesday at 1300 the VA Deputy Under
Secretary for Automated Benefits Delivery will speak to our members. He
is responsible for Veterans Benefits Administration’s (VBA) technology
and automation efforts to improve benefits claims processing for
Veterans.
An Army Veteran, Mr. Reynolds served with the 82nd Airborne Division and
U.S. Army Special Forces with overseas assignments at the Jungle Expert
School, French Commando School, and Operation Southern Thrust. He was
severely injured during a parachute accident and honorably discharged as
a result of his service-connected disabilities. He is a member of
several Veterans Service Organizations including the American Legion,
Veterans of Foreign Wars, 82nd Airborne Association, Special Forces
Association, and the Disabled American Veterans. Additionally, he served
as the National Commander of the 1.3 million-member Disabled American
Veterans during 2007-2008.
ATTENTION KHE SAHN AND MAI LOC PERSONNEL
All
who were assigned to or participated during Khe Sahn and/or Mai Loc
(including CCN) are encouraged to attend the inaugural 2023 Prayer
Breakfast during SOAR.
We will have an area assigned to sit together, and afterwards, will have an opportunity for comradery and fellowship.

Air Commando Association 2023 Convention: Air Commandos,
as we were finalizing preparations for the ACA 2023 Convention, we
became aware of some major conflicts outside our control that would have
had a significant impact on our ability to coordinate and execute our
normal Convention schedule. Therefore, your board has decided to move
this year’s 2023 fall activities to early spring of next year.
